43-year-old Richard Colbert Wynn was shot and killed in self-defense on Thanksgiving night, November 28, 2009, by 38-year-old Nathaniel Brailford. Brailford had some friends over for the Thanksgiving weekend and Wynn had also stopped by. Brailford didn't know Wynn, so asked him to leave. Wynn then got angry and broke the door, got in the face of a guest, and punched another guest, before a friend said he knew Wynn and calmed Wynn down, and allowed him to stay. After it got late, Brailford told Wynn to either sleep it off or go home. He said Wynn attacked him and threatened to kill him, and the fight lasted 10 minutes. Brailford grabbed his gun and fired four shots. He immediately unloaded the gun, called 911 and went outside to wait for police. Brailford claimed that the shooting was done in self-defense, but he was charged with murder anyways and it took him 4 years for his murder charge to be cleared.
