reported events that occurred at 648 East 53rd Street North on July 10th, 2011

On July 10, 2011 officers responded to a shooting at 648 E. 53rd Street North. Upon arrival the officers discovered 28 year old Bryan Mitchell and his girlfriend, 27 year old Kanisha Jackson shot to death in a bedroom. The couple's last day alive was unusual. It started normal enough when they both went to church in the morning, but, by 2 p.m., police were called because Bryan Mitchell was running naked down the street, high on PCP and Kanisha Jackson was threatening to kick him out, then by 7:30 p.m., they were both dead. Bryan Mitchell was a suspect in the murder of two 18 year olds in 2008, Teontae Ray and Tajuan Davis, who were both found shot to death in a car, but he was never charged. The 3 year anniversary of the deaths of the two 18 year olds was the day before Bryan and Kanisha were killed, July 9th. Police suspect that the main target was Bryan Mitchell. Police also say that Bryan Mitchell knew his killer, as there was no forced entry. It is thought that Bryan was talking with his killer in the living room, before being shot and running to the bedroom, and collapsing, where Kanisha Jackson was also at. Kanisha Jackson was then also shot multiple times. The two were discovered by their neighbor after she heard gunshots and went to check on them. The case remains unsolved.
