On October 8, 2011, at their home in Hurstville, Sydney, Dragi Maglovski beat and stabbed his wife, Rosa Maglovski, to death after she asked for a divorce. The attack was described as savage and quick, with Dragi stabbing Rosa at least 10 times, slashing and beating her. Their adult son, Daniel, was upstairs during the incident. The couple had been sleeping in separate bedrooms for over eight months prior to the attack, and Rosa had informed Dragi of her desire for a divorce on that day. They married in 1984 after moving to Australia from Macedonia, and Rosa started her own cleaning company and became more independent. The court dismissed claims that Rosa's request for divorce was a mitigating circumstance and emphasized the right of married women to choose their own destiny. Dragi Maglovski was sentenced to a maximum of 20 years in prison, with a non-parole period of 16 years.
