Double homicide. Parricide. On July 22, 2005, 73-year-old Roy Villa Woodley and 71-year-old Angeline Cecilia “Angie” Esparza Woodley were found dead in their Ashlan Avenue home. According to their autopsy reports, they were each stabbed to death with a knife. While Roy had almost 30 puncture wounds on his body, Angie, who, like her husband, was tied up with tape, was stabbed 14 times. During the homicide investigation, officers discovered that Roy and Angie’s estranged son, Phillip Woodley, had recently gotten in touch with his parents. The timing was suspicious. Although Woodley denied any connection to the murders, his friend, Jeffrey Rancour, confessed that he and Woodley planned to rob the elderly couple for some extra cash. Both he and Woodley were high on “ice” during the murders. Rancour claims that he was unaware of Woodley’s true intentions of killing his parents. Woodley disputed this. Phillip Woodley was found guilty of two counts of first-degree murder and was sentenced to two consecutive life terms, while Rancour plead guilty to manslaughter for a reduced sentence of 18 years.
