On September 11, 2007, 27-year-old Steffan Schlemme was shot and killed during a botched mugging by 27-year-old Martinez Williams in Schlemme's yard. Martinez approached Schlemme claiming that he needed gas, so Schlemme tried to find some for him and then offered a couple dollars from his money clip to Martinez. Martinez then pulled out a gun and demanded from Schlemme all the money inside the money clip. Schlemme refused however and struggled with Martinez, when Martinez shot Schlemme several times in the torso. Martinez then fled the scene, but was arrested 19 hours later and sentenced to life in prison.
