A man has been sentenced to nine years in jail after his three-year-old daughter was found dead in their lounge room. Matthew Lee Williamson, 32, was identified by Justice Roslyn Atkinson as the one who delivered the fatal blow to Kyhesha-Lee Joughin. During the sentencing hearing, Justice Atkinson described the child's death as a "slow, painful" one and expressed her belief that Kyhesha-Lee had endured considerable suffering. While Williamson pleaded guilty to manslaughter, he denied causing the injuries that led to his child's death. Justice Atkinson further highlighted the appalling conditions in which Kyhesha-Lee had lived, describing the environment as "depraved and disgusting." She characterized Williamson as callous. As a result of being classified as a serious violent offender, Williamson must serve 80 percent of his sentence before becoming eligible for parole. According to testimony in the Supreme Court, it was revealed that the little girl died from a perforated bowel inflicted by a punch to her stomach. Additionally, she had experienced physical and sexual abuse and was frequently locked in her bedroom without access to food, water, or a toilet. The court also learned that Williamson tied a rope to his bed while sleeping during the day.
