Quoted from original police record: Man shot to death: Sczerba or Serba, John Age 63 Fatally shot 10:05 AM, 1/25/29, in the kitchen of his home, 1834 So. Ashland Ave., 2nd fl., by Patrolman Walter Skolny whom he wounded first when the latter came to notify him to come to the station to identify robbery suspects. Deceased evidently misunderstood the officers purpose and drew a gun and shot him. On 2/20/29 Skolny was exonerated by the Coroner. 23 Dist.
