Man jailed for strangling designer: A 24-year-old drifter has been sent to prison for 13 years for beating and strangling to death a well-known interior designer, Jack Willard Bell. Dougall Alexander MacDonald, who was originally charged with second-degree murder pleaded guilty to manslaughter. After returning to his Collier St. home with a house guest from Florida on the evening of Aug. 2, 1993, Bell left his home and encountered MacDonald, who lived on the streets of downtown Toronto. Bell invited him back to the house, where they consumed alcohol and Valium, court heard. - Toronto Star (Sept 30, 1994)
