Marchelle "Shelly" Hansen, 23, disappeared on Nov. 12, 1988. Shelly worked a shift at Marquip, clocking out around 8 p.m that night and has not been seen since. She was reported missing 5 days later. Her red sedan was found parked at the Lake 10 Resort, 11 miles south of Phillips. The resort is now an apartment complex. Police found no signs of foul play in her car or at her home at the Starlight Apartment complex. Shelly told her family she was pregnant shortly before she vanished. She did not reveal the identity of the father, saying that the man promised to provide child support as long as his identity was kept hidden. Shelly fully intended to raise the child herself. After police finished searching Shelly’s apartment, her family took her belongings to her brother Ron's home. Two days later, all of Shelly’s things were burned in a fire that destroyed the home. Fire inspectors concluded that the fire was caused by an overheated woodburning stove. Shelly's case has remained unsolved. Investigators have never released any names of persons of interest.
