November 3, 1949; Hazel Lowe, 21, was discovered strangled to death in the basement of the home, which had been converted to an apartment by the homeowner. Her husband Jimmy Lowe, 19, was found injured after attempting suicide, and admitted to killing her. He told police she had come home drinking, and when she told him she wouldn't love him the same, he was angered and got into a fight where he choked her to death. Afterwards, he attempted to slash his arms, and when that failed he turned on the gas jets in the kitchen and tried to asphyxiate himself with monoxide. The landlady later came down to the basement and discovered the scene, and police were called who arrested Jimmy Lowe and charged him with murder.
