On May 17, 2020, 23-year-old Jordan Kuykendall returned home around 2AM and got intoxicated. He had been dropped off by a state trooper after getting robbed at gunpoint on the highway. While at the home, he overheard his mother Stephanie having a convo with her husband, stating that Jordan wouldn't have been robbed if he had been at the home before 2AM. This angered Jordan, and he began assaulting his mother, punching her in the face. Jordan's step-father / his mother's husband, 59-year-old Charles Botts intervened in the assault and pulled Kuykendall off. Botts slammed and held Kuykendall to the ground for a few seconds, before releasing him and then walking off to his bedroom. Kuykendall grabbed a knife and followed Botts into his room, and started fighting with him and brutally stabbing him. Botts was stabbed repeatedly in the left chest, penetrating his heart. Kuykendall then struck Botts in the head several times while he was slumped against a closet door in the corner. Police soon arrived to the residence and arrested Kuykendall. Botts was transported to the hospital where he died shortly after of the stab wounds. Later at trial, Kuykendall was found guilty of voluntary manslaughter. He was sentenced to around 6 and a half years in prison.
