On November 4, 1988, at around 3AM, Geraldine Chew had been out celebrating her 47th birthday with her boyfriend, 33 year old Daryl Wayne Leister. They were sitting in a car in the driveway of 732 N. Lewis Place, when an unidentified man brandishing a six-inch knife ran up to the car, and reached through the open drivers side window and stabbed Leister in the back, neck, and shoulders. The unidentified man then ran around to the passengers side where Chew was sitting, and smashed the window before stabbing Chew twice, once in the heart. Leister then drove off with the suspect still hanging on until he slammed on the vehicle's brakes and the suspect fell to the road. Leister then drove to the hospital, but Chew died within minutes. Leister survived the attack, but the suspect was never identified. The suspect was described as a white male, 5-foot-7 to 5-10, weighing 130 to 150 pounds, with shoulder-length, curly blond hair, and wearing a brown jacket.
