35-year-old Kunta Jordan was shot to death inside his SUV at the McKinley Apartments. His case remains unsolved. A week after Jordan's death, someone opened fired in the parking lot of the same complex. 3 vehicles were hit but no one was injured.
On the evening of 1/10/2010, officers were called to McKinley Apartments at 6618 E. Latimer Pl., Apartment 9, in relation to a shooting. Neighbors reported hearing noises coming from the apartment followed by gunshots. One witness chased a black male in a dark hoodie, but the person got away. Officers arrived to find Jeffery Turner deceased from multiple gunshot wounds inside apartment 9. Evidence indicates more than one suspect was present in the apartment. Turner was 44 years old at the time. The case is unsolved.
On January 29, 2006, James McClaine, born in 1955, was shot. 16 years late, McClaine died on 05/09/2022 from the injuries he received during the shooting. His death has been ruled a homicide.
McKinley Court Apartments were condemned by the city in May of 2019 due to extremely poor management and lack of safety at the apartments. This left many residents homeless. The apartments are currently being remodeled.
