At approximately 11:55 p.m., deputies responded to a check welfare call at the home. When deputies arrived on the scene, they found the 78-year-old Peirce, with a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The body of 51-year-old Zhang Peirce was found in the residence. Hayford Peirce (January 7, 1942 – November 19, 2020) was an American writer of science fiction, mysteries, and spy thrillers. He attended Phillips Exeter Academy and received his BA from Harvard College.[citation needed] He wrote numerous short stories for the science-fiction magazines Analog, Galaxy, and Omni, as well as mystery shorts for Alfred Hitchcock's Mystery Magazine and Ellery Queen's Mystery Magazine. Most of his stories are light-hearted and satiric in tone, with elements of black humor and occasional surprising grimness.
