At approximately 11:55 p.m., deputies responded to a check welfare call at the home. When deputies arrived on the scene, they found the 78-year-old Peirce, with a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The body of 51-year-old Zhang Peirce was found in the residence. Hayford Peirce (January 7, 1942 – November 19, 2020) was an American writer of science fiction, mysteries, and spy thrillers. He attended Phillips Exeter Academy and received his BA from Harvard College. He wrote numerous short stories for the science-fiction magazines Analog, Galaxy, and Omni, as well as mystery shorts for Alfred Hitchcock's Mystery Magazine and Ellery Queen's Mystery Magazine. Most of his stories are light-hearted and satiric in tone, with elements of black humor and occasional surprising grimness.
