The owners of a home in Hawks Nest, located on the NSW mid-north coast, have sold the property where a seven-year-old girl named Ebony was found dead in 2007. Ebony had starved to death and suffered from dehydration, weighing only nine kilograms. Her neglectful parents were held responsible for her tragic death. Her mother received a life sentence for murder, which was later reduced to a maximum of 40 years, while her father was sentenced to 12 years in prison for manslaughter.
