Triple homicide. Donald Hartung, killed his mother, Voncile Smith, 77, and two half-brothers, John, 47, and Richard Smith, 49. All were bludgeoned to death with a clawhammer, throats slit, and Richard was also shot in the head. Investigator initially believed the killings were ritualistic, but prosecutors later revealed that Hartung's motive was to become the sole beneficiary of any and all inheritance. Donald Wayne Hartung Sr, at age 63, was found guilty of three counts of premeditated first-degree murder.
