Cody Hess, 21, was charged with second-degree murder and voluntary manslaughter after fatally shooting a 35-year-old man in his parents' trailer south of town. Anne Hess, Cody's mother, told deputies that Robbins was friends with her son and was staying in the family's trailer following a rehab stint in Sheridan. Both parents told deputies they were asleep at the time of the shooting. Cody Hess told deputies he took Robbins, a veteran, to the American GI Forum 619 on Monday afternoon to play poker, and Robbins returned in the early morning "pretty drunk." Hess said he helped Robbins inside and tried to coax him into going to bed, but Robbins refused and attacked him following a disagreement over spilled tea. Hess said Robbins punched him in the face, put him in a headlock and threatened to kill him before reaching for Hess's gun. Hess said he got away, drew his weapon and told Robbins to stop before Robbins lunged and Hess shot Robbins 3 times.
