Unsolved Homicide; On January 7, 1987, a neighbor asked 38-year-old Candyce Woodward to babysit her child due to her being ill. Woodward accepted and looked over the 3-year-old girl at her duplex home, 3902 S 125th E Ave. Later that day, Woodward received a knock on her front door. When she answered, a man armed with a hammer forced his way into the residence. He began striking Woodward repeatedly with the hammer, ultimately beating her to death. The 3-year-old girl was left physically unharmed, but the man warned her not to move from the couch she was on because of "spiders and snakes." Woodward's husband came home from work later in the day and noticed the garage door open. When he entered the home, Woodward was found dead and the 3-year-old was still on the couch. The motive for the murder is unknown, as robbery didn't appear to be it.
