Man stabbed to death: Richard William Stevens, 43, was found in his 14th- floor apartment on Eglinton Ave. E. near Markham Rd. with a knife embedded in the back of his head. He also appeared to have been severely beaten. Stevens, a Canada Post employee, lived alone. Charles Anthony Schmuttermayer, 28, of Guildwood Pkwy. in Scarborough, has been charged with second-degree murder. - Toronto Star (Jan 07, 1993)

Youth's blow slays good Samaritan: A Scarborough father, described as a good Samaritan, has died after being attacked while trying to rid the building where he lived of a gang of youths. Abre Asfaw, 33, died of massive head injuries Wednesday afternoon, three days after being punched by a youth. The father of an 8-month-old daughter met a worried neighbor on the elevator, police said. The neighbor told him five suspicious young men were loitering in the building's underground garage and asked Asfaw if he would help investigate. - Toronto Star (Apr 24, 1992)
