Woman, 42, charged in man's beating death: A 42-year-old Scarborough woman has been charged in the beating death of retired dockworker Harold Tanchuk, police say. Barbara Gwendolyn Gonsalves of Glamorgan Rd. was charged with first-degree murder early yesterday morning. Tanchuk, 68, was found dead in the living room of his 14th-floor Bleecker St. apartment Monday morning by building security staff, who went to the one-bedroom unit to make repairs. Police believe Tanchuk was murdered some time after 6 p.m. Sunday. He died of massive head injuries as a result of a beating, an autopsy shows. - Toronto Star (Jan 31, 1993)
Drifter gets life for murder: A 35-year-old drifter has been sentenced to life imprisonment in the beating death of a 50-year-old Metro man who invited him to dinner. Jeff Barnes joined Cossette for dinner at the victim's Bleecker St. home on Oct. 21 last year but the two men got into a dispute. Barnes severely beat Cossette who suffered a broken nose and jaw but the injuries themselves were not life threatening. The older man "choked to death on his own blood." - Toronto Star (Apr 23, 1995)
