In 1974 this building housed the Warner Cafe. In the early morning hours Ellis Shelton, wearing a stocking mask and carrying a sawed off shotgun, and his masked but unarmed associate, entered the bar to rob the business. An off duty Pinkerton Detective named Lloyd Adkins grappled with Shelton while another customer did the same with the other robber. Shelton shot and killed Adkins. He was sentenced to death, reduced to life in prison, and paroled after 14 years.
