On December 20th, 1975, William James Riddle broke into the home of 40 year old Ina Violet Crookes and smothered her to death while she slept. Crookes' two daughters, Ellen and Susan were at home at the time and saw Riddle during and after the attack, both testifying against him in court. Clothing from the murder victim was also found in the engine compartment of an old truck on Riddles' property. He was found guilty of first degree murder in 1977 and received life in prison.
