Quoted from original police record: Woman stabbed to death: Smith, Fannie Age 34 Colored Stabbed to death at 12:45 PM, 10/20/28, in 2nd fl., 1320 So. Racine Ave., with an ice pick, supposedly by one Charles Williams, during a quarrel. On 10/22/28 Williams was booked for murder but on the same day exonerated by the Coroners manslaughter verdict by unknown person. ON 11/9/28, however, Williams was held in bonds of $25,000.00 to the G.J. by Judge Lupe. 22 Dist. 4/10/29 Acquitted J. Sullivan.
