An explosion on the 19th floor of that was caused by the mishandling of chemicals used in the production of drugs.Two people, a 53-year-old woman and a 43-year-old man, both of Toronto, were arrested, taken to hospital where they were treated for minor burns, released from hospital, and charged. The two were occupants of the unit. Initially, 12 trucks and 45 firefighters responded to the call, he said, but it was quickly apparent that the damage was done by the time that fire crews arrived. "It didn't require any firefighting," he said. "It was an explosion. There was some smoke. Some debris fell out. I believe the damage was contained to the unit."

Residents evacuated after a two-alarm fire: Firefighters were called to the building shortly before 9:30 p.m. The fire was knocked down at around 9:45 p.m. When crews arrived on the scene, a third-floor apartment was fully engulfed in flames. Toronto Fire Platoon Chief Wayne Patterson said several people, including a woman and a child, had to be rescued from balconies.

Two-alarm fire on 12th floor, suspected arson: Firefighters put out the fire -- which started on the 12th floor -- fairly quickly but smoke forced the evacuation of residents from the 10th to 19th floors. A 46-year-old woman was taken to hospital and treated for smoke inhalation.
