Two women murdered two weeks apart in 1979: Orchard Apartments, now known as Las Americas apartments. On July 27, 1979, 33-year-old Alys Elaine Rankin was found naked, bound and decapitated. The head has never been recovered despite extensive efforts. Exactly two weeks later, the body of Mary Michael Calcutta was found two floors above Rankin's apartment.
